The story of this musician can be summed up as "Live Life to the Fullest".....this is why.......
J. Wail aka Jonah Gabriel Lipsky resides in Phoenix, AZ and originally grew up in New York. Musical instruments have been a thing for Jonah since his early days. When Jonah was 2 years of age, his mother passed away. The beautiful classical guitar that his mother played was later passed down to him. Although he rarely takes it out on stage, the symbol and essence of his mother and the guitar lies deep within his soul. Growing up, Jonah started playing the trombone and the keys. Throughout his life Jonah has picked up all other kinds of instruments and electronic toys and has enjoyed indulging himself in new musical worlds.
In 2001 Jonah got a loop pedal and a guitar synthesizer. With his new intruments he released his first album, titled "Blast Off!" The album is unique and creative and there is even a little game to play on the CD "Guess the Noise."
From 1999-2002 J played in a band called J.A.W.S. He was the lead singer, song writer, and guitar/sythesizer player. The band dismantled after a few years but set the stage for Jonah's for his solo act. Jonah, wanting to take his motivation into his own hands, started his 'eclectic one-man spacefunk conglomeration' J. WAIL.
In November 2005 J released his 2nd album "New Conglomerations from Space". The album features new songs such as "Space Monkey from Space," "Booty," and "Chugalug," The album was recorded with the notion of wanting to portray what J could do live solo with his looping techniques. J headed out for a 2 month Winter Tour to promote his new album. Highlights include J. Wail getting the crowd all over the dance floor in venues like Nectar's in Burlington, VT and The Lion's Den in NYC....where he shared the bill with L.A.W. from George Clinton's P-Funk.
After the tour J moved to Arizona where he has become an evolving force in the 'jamtronica' scene.
In summer 2006 J. Wail hit the road with the “Funktronica Freshness Tour.” The tour included 60 shows and all corners of the country. Highlights include a 30 minute jam with Dean Ween of Ween in New Hope, PA at John & Peter's. J also opened for Toubab Krewe on the tour. In October 2007 J. Wail opened for Perpetual Groove. He was joined by Brock Butler of Perpetual Groove on stage. He opened and jammed for one time Grateful Dead member Tom Constanten in November 2006 on 5 night run. Highlights include a Fire on the Mountain....'funktronica version.'
This past winter J. Wail completed a month and a half Winter Tour-titled the "Warm That Booty Tour." On this run he played venues such as the Aggie Theatre and the Orpheum Theater. He shared the bill with Delta Nove, Spoonfed Tribe and more. Highlights included the after party at Quioxotes in Denver for Kimmock/Zilla next door. He also recently played at the Tucson gem & Jam Festival. J. Wail is currently recording his 3rd album which has no title at this time. This spring/summer J. Wail plans on playing 80-100 shows and all the corners of the country, several times. Wherever in the world his inspiration takes him, J. Wail is a musician to keep an eye on. In just the last year he has played approximately 150 shows and made an abundance of groovers shake their bootys. The energy, the electricity, the beats and the funk....J. Wail. |
