Jer Coons wants to move you: "I want to make music that makes the hair on your neck stand up, like mine does when I hear songs by my favorite artists." Those artists range from The Beatles, to Ben Folds, to Barry Manilow. "'Mandy' has been played more than any song on my-pod. But seriously, don't tell anyone I said that." The 18-year old singer/songwriter has been captivating audiences for the past year and a half with his energetic stage presence, quick-witted humor, and as one fan puts it: "devilish charm".
Jer hit the coffee shops and open mic gigs all over his home state of Vermont as he developed the songs that would become "Entropy", his debut CD on GlennSource Records. The album, on which Jer plays everything from guitar, to bass, to drums, to glochenspiel, consists of 11 songs which chronicle exactly one year of his life. "I originally wanted to have the songs in chronological order on the disc, but all the sappy songs were at the end. The test panels indicated that certain demographics preferred a more emotionally-randomized track listing, so we obviously had to change it for them."
The fall of '06 saw Jer relocating to NYC, to study Music Management. "I want to remove as many of the variables as possible," he proclaimed, adding that his studies won't interfere with his getting out and playing anywhere from Colleges, to Coffee Shops, to Clubs...even Corrals. When asked to describe his sound, Jer once told a man: "I'm somewhere between Jack Johnson and John Mayer. At least alphabetically speaking, by first name."
