Everyone's familiar with the story of the prodigal son returning home after finally coming back to himself and realizing that there’s no better place than where he was meant to be all along. It is one that resonates deeply with the journey Jared has been on lately. He found out that he could have everything the world offered and still lie awake in bed at night wondering what his purpose was. These feelings quickly turned to a lifestyle devised to fill a void. The temporary fix of using everthing within reach soon took their toll. Unlike so many of the stories he had seen on television Jared found no joy in the ‘clean living’. The satisfaction turned out to be only superficial and temporary. He had created what he called a bargaining chip, a way to seemingly know God and get what he wanted all at the same time. “I would tell God if I give up doing this, then I want this or I’m going to do that. The problem is that the bargaining chips eventually ran out and I was back at square one all over again." Realizing that he could no longer make “deals” with God, Jared let it all go and came “Running.” His autobiographical song “Running” describes that moment of clarity. “I had finally found what I’d been wandering for, and it had been there the whole time."
Jared’s life translated through music makes a clear presentation of a man enraptured by redemption and grace. This duality of emotional is conveyed throughout the course of his new recording. It’s in the knee bending “Enough”, where we find Jared completely exposed, where all at once he seems to be praising God and in a moment of revelation. C.S. Lewis once proclaimed, “It’s not that we ask too much of God, but that we don’t ask nearly enough.” “The Feeding Hand” delivers Lewis’ poignant thought by challenging the listener to put their faith to the test in big ways. In the case of "Where I Belong" Jared puts us at the foot of the cross after straying away. Shot in the Dark shares the practical side of being back home.
Wrapped in infectious melodies, Jared’s heartcry comes through loud in clear in his live shows because the songwriting finds itself a more than capable helpmate in his rich, soulful voice. Armed with only a guitar and microphone, Jared manages to perform for each person in the crowd and not to the crowd itself – an ability that is completely foreign to many artists of the day. His dynamic vocals are inclusive of many of today’s popular singers but it is Jared’s delivery which separates him from them. “I want my music to be real to people…for the conviction in my voice to speak to that wandering heart.” |

| I would have to say I've been influenced a lot by Darrell Scott and Ben Harper as much as anyone else's music. Anything that I can feel has an impact on me. |
