About Us
¡Suénalo! (sweh-nah-low) v.
1. To sound, slap, or play upon a musical instrument, object, or person.
¡Suénalo! is the premier band in Miami, with a sound that vividly reflects the different cultures
that shape the Magic City. The members of ¡Suénalo! come from Cuba, Dominican Republic,
Puerto Rico, USA, and Venezuela, and they mix a wide variety of styles that result in a genre
that defies classification, but could comfortably be described as Latin Funk. HipHop, rock, R&B,
afrobeat, cumbia, reggae, soca, salsa, and drum ‘n’ bass are some of the styles intertwined in
their music. ¡Suénalo! is often described as “the essence and sound of Miami.”
Formed in 2002, ¡Suénalo! has released three albums: the jam-band oriented Collages 2003,
the guest-star-ladden Suenalo in 2006, and the energetic and vibrant Live at Transit in 2009,
which best captures the current sound of the band. This nine-piece ensemble is made up of
Amin De Jesus (vocals and MC), Chad Bernstein (trombone, conch shells, and keyboards)
who also plays with Miami’s The Spam Allstars, Carlos Guzman (bass), Jose Freire (drums;
formerly of American and Latin-Grammy-award-winners Bacilos), Allan Ramos (percussion)
Juan Turros (sax and flute; formerly a member of David Lee Roth’s and Maynard Ferguson’s
bands) and Tony Laurencio (keyboards; also with Afrobeta and Jorge Villamizar, and former
touring member of Bacilos and Pitbull). ¡Suénalo! is also currently touring with singer Michelle
Forman, an acclaimed singer-songwriter from Miami, and Alejandro Garcia on guitars (former
member of Julio Iglesias’ band).
¡Suénalo! is a staple in the Miami music scene, regularly playing in the city’s premier venues
and festivals, including Calle Ocho, Carnival on the Mile, and Langerado. ¡Suénalo! enjoys a
growing fan base in Miami, and has made a dent in several other cities, such as New Orleans,
Asheville, N.C., Chicago, New York City, and Florida cities such as Orlando, Tampa, Daytona
Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville, New Smyrna Beach, and Key West.
¡Suénalo! is currently starting pre-production of a new studio album,
to be released by the end of 2011.
